So ok... no shit... K8... The event site for K8 was probably the best event site I've ever seen for any Amtgard event, and especially for a Knoblander. There was a large creek running through the site which made for a lot of the better fighting area terrain (like the ISLANDS) and what not, and so Sir Crosser got all excited about all of the possibilites.
Sir Crosser had been planning since seeing the site, to bring a snorkle and goggle and literally swim up the river during the middle of the friday night battle. Once game day finally arrived, and lay on was called (around midnight), he got geared up and got into the water.
Now, the way K8's battlefield was laid out, Squire Haydeezs team controlled several large fields with some scattered woods throughout, and the creek bordering their eastern side. The northern border of their controlled area was a massive waterfall over an old hydro electric dam from the very early 1900's. It was there, in that corner of the field where the creek turned to the waterfall, that one of the mission points for the patroll route mission was placed. VERY defendable by Heydeez's team and it was going to be a bitch to get to.
Realizing where the point was located from the map, Sir Crosser drops quietly down into the water and heads upstream. He swims the entire length of the creek (deep water) which was over a mile. Along the way, he runs into several scragglers from the enemy force chilling out along the creek bank during the middle of the night. Now Crosser has this bad ass cross bow that he uses... the thing works great even when in water. Swimming quietly through the water, he emerges to the suprise of those on the bank and then... THAWCK!!! dead enemy. He does this several times while making his way up the creek until he arrives at the main point. This has taken a VERY long time and the mission was almost over (the missions are timed). There on the bank at the objective point sits two lone guards, confident they are very secure.
My team had been trying to get this last point all night, but Heydeez's forces had created a nice defensive line along their southern border and basically made us fight through a bottle neck defended by PTK and the Ferrum Crux. In short we couldn't break the line. We threw so many small teams at it in an attempt to laterally bypass that point that I was seriously worried we wouldn't get the objective and would lose the points for the missoin (the largest point value mission of the game in fact at 50 pts) so I threw larger groups of fighting compaines straight into the bottle neck in an attempt to blast through. With these failures I was beginning to worry about getting some of my core elements shattered.
Back to Crosser now sitting in the water looking up at the guards... the guards were discussing the bad ass defense strategy Heydeez employeed to defend this one point and thereby win the mission... one turns to the other and says,
"Yeah, this is futile... it would take a frogman to get here" as he looks to the water. About that time, Crosser fires his first arrow... THWACK!!! calls his points, reloads, fires again as the other guard is searching frantically for the source of the incoming missile fire... THWACK again from the darkness... the guard asks for a point value on the bolt, Crosser answers, and the guard calls dead. Crosser then crawls out of the water to find his point and gets the code from the poster board located there. Writing it down, he slips back into the water and hurries to logistics to give the final number and win the mission for the team!
Upon arriving at the logistics tent, he hurriedly and proudly gives the code only to be told that it had already been reported. As it turned out, I had gotten so nervous about losing the points, I simply went in alone, made my way past Heydeez's defenses and crawled past the guards to the point and gotten the numbers myself. You see, I'm a Scout in the army and actually do just this sort of thing for a living and so had to resort to the mundane to save the mission, stealing my company bro's Crosser's thunder after the fact.
And that's how Sir Crosser became Sol Invictus's first Navy Seal.
