K3... No shit... there I was... on logisitcs and leading the Helmsfield team down a very dark trail along the side of a mountain. The foilage was especially thick overhead lending a cavelike effect to the whole thing. The players were actually a bit spooked to be going down this dark trail, but we could see the faint glow of a chem-light (glow stick) way down the trail in the distance. I urged the team to move on towards the glow light and just keep moving.
We had pre-positioned a new special Knoblander monster called a MoMO down the trail and off into some bushes to ambush the party. It was carrying a special relic needed for that game. The MoMo is kind of a Missouri Bigfoot, and for the costum, we had a full chewbacca costume with some weird big foot type mask. The poor guy who was playing the MoMo had been waiting off beside the trail for some time, while the Helmsfield team tried to get "un-lost" and climb a rather steep hill. By the time the party got there, he was more than eager to attack.
So the party is going down the trail and moving especially slow. They had worked out a set of challange and passwords. I believe that day it was something like a challange word of Blue... with a response of THUNDER.
The lead person in the party was an archer who was moving carefully with bow drawn. As he continued down the trail, a good bit ahead of his party, his eyes finally adjusted to the dark right about the location of the MoMo. Seeing something in the bushes, he gives the challange...
"BLUE", he says...
"MoMo..." Whispers our monster...
From back behind the lead scout, someone says, "what was that?"
"I dunno" says the scout, "I think it said something"... "BLUE!", he said again.
"MOMO", our monster replied a bit louder this time.
"Momo?", asked the party... "give the challange again."
"BLUE", says the scout a third time...
"MOMO!" Screams the monster as it jumped from his hiding spot in the bushes and onto the trail.
Well, the scout had gotten as close to the side of the trail as he dared while trying to get a better look, and two of his companions had come down closer to lend support.
When the MoMo exploded from the trail, all three turn and throw their hands up into the air and take off screaming with this monster running up the trail behind them yelling, "MO MO MO MO MO MO MO MO MO MO MO"... then taking a pause to adjust his big monster head that had fallen out of place..."MO MO MO MO MO"
They of course managed to get rid of the MoMo, but at a pretty high cost. Word spread of the horrifying monster we had on that horrible spooky trail up on top of the mountain. After the event was over, at the campfire, I listened to player after player relate tales of their own encounters with the tribe of MoMo's. Some numbering up into the 10-15 number range. Of course, there was only the one MoMo on the one trail, that one time.
